May 18, 2020 (Williamson County, TX) – Starting May 17 through May 23, Williamson County is saluting the hard work and dedication of hundreds of people in the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) field, including Williamson County EMS, for National Emergency Medical Services Week.

Williamson County EMS has 151 employees who assist the county’s approximately 600,000 residents in their greatest time of need. WilCo EMS employs 134 field paramedics who operate 22 ambulances and response vehicles working out of 19 different stations.

National Emergency Medical Services Week was originally launched in 1974, by President Gerald Ford. For the past 46 years, the week of recognition has grown in popularity, and followed different themes to highlight the topics of focus for EMS personnel throughout the nation.

This year’s theme is, “Ready today. Preparing for tomorrow.”

“Our paramedics have done an outstanding job of responding to the COVID-19 outbreak.  I could not be more proud of them.  They continue to demonstrate our mission of providing pre-eminent care, even in this different environment.  They are truly living out this year’s theme of ready today and preparing for tomorrow,” said Williamson County Emergency Medical Services Director Mike Knipstein

During EMS Week, we encourage residents to acknowledge, celebrate, and meditate on the many ways the local EMS partners have made a positive impact in their lives.

Whether it was during a crash, an emergency response call, or any other life-threatening concern, there are many stories to tell of the ways in which paramedics and other EMS personnel have impacted our lives.

In order to celebrate the sacrifices these men and women in uniform have made to save lives, the county is encouraging residents to reach out and say thanks through a social media campaign to support EMS.
