Austin Regional Medical Center Announces Rebranding Of Virtual Urgent Care Telemedicine Service
-ARC renames eMD Access-
October 26, 2021 – eMD Access, Austin Regional Clinic’s 24/7 subscription-based virtual urgent care telemedicine service, announces a new name and brand, NormanMD, honoring Dr. Norman Chenven, ARC’s founding CEO.
Over 40 years ago, Dr. Chenven envisioned making high-quality health care easily accessible to the community. NormanMD, with 24/7 on-demand virtual care, is an extension of that vision.
Shifting from eMD Access to NormanMD better reflects the core mission: providing access to a doctor any time, from anywhere in Texas. The change to NormanMD includes a new web site at NormanMD.com, a new logo, and a personable look and feel.
“Personalizing the name of the product and using the name Norman makes it feel more like reaching out to a trusted source, rather than just a technology. It says we’re made up of real people, making the service more approachable and trustworthy,” explains Jacob Childers, MD, NormanMD Medical Director.
The service remains the same dependable 24/7/365 access to family medicine and pediatric doctors in Texas for diagnosis, treatment or advice in minutes using a phone, tablet, or computer. After subscribing, there is no additional copay or fee to use the service.

Common ailments NormanMD physicians can address include-
- Provide urgent care telemedicine visits to advise, diagnose, and treat urgent care symptoms through direct messaging, voice and video chat and image uploads.
- Determine if lab testing is needed, and what, if any, type of medication should be given, including over-the-counter and prescription medications.
- Measure risk and urgency to determine treatment or referrals to a primary care or specialty doctor, when appropriate, and
- Send a follow-up visit summary to the user’s primary care physician to improve overall care coordination.
Individual subscriptions are $9.95/month or $100/year, far less than the cost of an urgent care clinic or emergency room visit. Users are never required to pay a co-pay, and individuals can subscribe for a low monthly or yearly fee for themselves and/or their families. Others receive the service as a benefit through their employer or health plan, where the lower-cost, individualized urgent care alternative results in significant healthcare savings and a reduction in employee absenteeism.
NormanMD also offers a 72-hour Access option for a one-time $40 fee, for individual adults age 18+ for access to a Family Medicine physician, with no copay.
“NormanMD helps reduce the total cost of care, whether for an individual, family, or employer,” said Dr. Childers, “while providing accountable, high-quality care from local Central Texas doctors. “
