During the COVID-19 Pandemic, the federal income tax filing deadline has been automatically extended from April 15, 2020 to July 15, 2020. Taxpayers can wait until July 15th to make federal income tax payments without interest or late payment penalties, regardless of the amount owed. The IRS urges taxpayers who are due a refund to file as soon as possible. Filing electronically with direct deposit is the quickest way to get refunds.
