Member Spotlight - Public Library Foundation
The Cedar Park Public Library Foundation was established in 1993 as an IRS recognized 501 (c) 3 charitable organization with the ability to receive tax deductible donations and to administer grants. The Foundation has funded building improvements, security enhancements, checkin/checkout automation, children’s reading programs, children’s and adult literacy programs, and public computer upgrades. The Library is the most inclusive and democratic institution in the community where anyone and everyone can go to read, learn and explore.
- What is the name of your organization and give us a brief description of your business?
The Foundation is distinct from the City, from the Library Department, and from the Friends of the Library. While the City budget covers the costs of the building, the books and the staff, the Foundation conducts fundraising activities such as FableFest, Books For Babies, spelling bees, grant applications and capital campaigns to augment City funding of the library to enable special programs, technical innovation and other needs for more physical and online resources to keep up with population growth.. The all volunteer Board of the Library Foundation gives civic-minded citizens an opportunity to serve and make a difference.
- What makes you unique from other businesses in your industry?
- How long have you been a member of the Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce and why did you join?
The Foundation has always been a Chamber member because the goals match. Improve Cedar Park. The library is an opportunity multiplier for people and businesses wishing to get ahead – with free services. As the current president of the Foundation, I joined the Chamber (twenty-five years ago, or so) to engage with my new home after decades as an IBM gypsy. The Chamber of Commerce multiplied my circle of friends and introduced me to opportunities to serve – especially with the Library Foundation.
