“Get to Know the Chamber Board – Jim Cooper”

    1. Please tell us a bit about how your business got started. What is your mission?
I made the transition into the financial services world with the goal of opening up my own office after someone with Primerica sat down with me and my wife to help us map out our financial goals and teach us how to properly manage our finances.  After becoming a client, I saw the value of the financial education and help we were given, and saw a way I could provide the same help for others in our community.  I also saw this as a means for getting out of Corporate America and creating a family business that could be handed down to future generations.  My mission is to help families become properly protected, debt free, and financially independent.
    1. How did you become involved in the Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce?
When I started my business, I immediately recognized the need to connect with others.  I tried a variety of networking groups in order to get my information out to as many people as possible.  At some point, I made the decision to try out the Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce and immediately saw a difference between how it functions versus how other groups work.  For the most part, networking groups are focused on “what’s in it for me” whereas the Chamber of Commerce focuses on “how can I help you.”  By serving others and promoting our community, you ultimately end up helping yourself too.
    1. How does your business contribute to the community?
Our main contribution centers around our mission of providing financial literacy to those looking for it and helping families implement their financial plans using the best products and services within the industry.  In addition, our representatives are encouraged to find places to serve within their community such as church, their children’s school, non-profit organizations, and anywhere else they see a need.
    1. What do you feel has been your contribution to your business and the business community in Cedar Park?
I feel my contribution to Primerica has been to be the first representative to open up a Primerica office within Cedar Park.  As for our business community, I enjoy meeting other business owners and referring their services out to my clients and others who need what they do.  I like connecting people with the goal of making our business community stronger and more robust.
    1. How do you feel the Cedar Park Chamber has contributed to your business?
There’s no doubt the Cedar Park Chamber has been instrumental in helping me get my business up and running.  The Chamber truly is a family of like-minded business owners and professionals who want to help one another prosper within Cedar Park and Central Texas areas.   The Chamber has helped me form strategic relationships with many other businesses and it’s allowed me to form great friendships as well.
